Tiffin Wrestling Takes On Virtual NCAAs

Tiffin Wrestling Takes On Virtual NCAAs

Despite not getting the chance to compete for a physical National Championship two weeks ago in South Dakota, Tiffin wrestling is now in the mix for a virtual NCAA crown.

This Friday and Saturday, the Twitter account Virtual D2 NCAA Wrestling (@VD2NCAA) is holding polls for each matchup according to the brackets that were initially released by the NCAA.

Tiffin's five qualifiers are Chris Donathan at 149, Trey Grine at 157, Bryan LaVearn at 165, Hayden Bronne at 174, and Nick Mason at 197. Anyone with a Twitter account can vote, they just need to search for the @VD2NCAA account and find each Dragon wrestler's poll.

Things happen very quickly, though, as each poll is only set to last 15 minutes before the winner is determined, so be sure to follow along diligently with the @VD2NCAA account and @TiffinWrestling accounts to make sure you don't miss any poll including Tiffin wrestlers.

A scoring system has been drawn up that accounts for margin (or percentage) of victory in each poll as well:

1%-49% margin of victory: Reg. Decision
50%-75%: Maj. Decision
76%-89%: Tech Fall
90%-100%: Fall

Teams receive points based on finishing 1st-8th, points for each decision/fall, and points for each advancement in both the championship and consolation brackets. The full point breakdown is available on the @VD2NCAA account. Individual and Team Champions will be crowned on Twitter on Saturday night.

The schedule is as follows:

Friday, 12 PM: Session 1 - prelims and first round
Friday, 7 PM: Session 2 - Championship second round, Consolation first and second rounds
Saturday, 11 AM: Session 3 - Championship semifinals, Consolation third round and semifinals, followed by 3rd, 5th, & 7th place matches
Saturday, 8 PM: Session 4 - Championship finals and Team Awards ceremony
