Women's Basketball Falls to No. 1 Ashland 79-63

The Tiffin University women's basketball team (5-14, 2-9 GMAC) fell to No. 1 Ashland 79-63.

The Eagles jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the first four minutes of play. The Dragons countered with a 6-0 run to cut Ashland's lead to 9-6. Ashland went on a 4-0 run to go up 18-10, but Tiffin bounced back with a 4-0 run to close out the first quarter down 18-14.

TU outscored the Eagles 5-4 at the start of the second quarter to cut the visitor's lead down to 22-19. Ashland countered with a 4-1 run to build a six-point lead at 26-20. The Dragons kept the game close, never letting the Eagles build more than a six-point lead until the last minute when the Dragons went on a 7-1 run to bring the score to 33-32 at halftime.

Tiffin came out strong after the break, going on a 7-0 run to lead 39-33 in the first two minutes of play. Ashland countered with a 5-0 run to cut the lead to 39-38. The Eagles tied the game at 41-41 at the 5:27 mark and went on an 8-0 run to gain a 49-41 advantage. TU outscored Ashland 8-3 for the rest of the third quarter to bring the score to 52-49.

In the final frame of the game, the Dragons kept it close as they outscored the Eagles 9-8 in the first five minutes of play. However, the Ashland offense caught fire and went on a 7-2 run to lead 67-60 with 4:52 left in the game. The Eagles poured on the points and went on to win 79-63.

Savanah Richards led the team with 18 points shooting 7-for-12 from the field, grabbing four rebounds, and three assists, Kirsten Williams had a big night with 16 points shooting 5-for-9 from the field, had six rebounds, and two assists, and Jada Tate scored nine points shooting 4-for-9 from the field, tallied four rebounds, two assists, and two steals.
