Dragons ranked 8th; grapplers continue to excel

Tiffin University's men's wrestling team was ranked 8th in the nation, with numerous individual standouts also recognized as the latest Division II rankings were announced.

Taking the top spot in the poll was St. Cloud St. with 103 points, while McKendree was next with 80 and Nebraska Kearney was third with 72. Tiffin had 44 points and was the sole GMAC team in the Top 25. Alderson-Broaddus also received votes.

Individually five Dragons were ranked. Trey Grine (157) was the highest with a 1st place ranking, while Nick Mason (197) was up to 3rd. Chris Donathan (149) came in at 8th in the nation, while Hayden Bronne (174) was 9th. Bryan LaVearn (165) jumped into the national rankings with an 11th place mark.

Hayden Bronne continues to lead NCAA Division II in falls, joining teammate Nick Mason in the Top 10, as the NCAA released the weekly standings for the 2020 NCAA Wrestling Awards that will be awarded in March at the respective Division I, II and III Wrestling Championships.

Bronne maintained the national lead with a season total of 11. His 11 pins came in a time of 15:11, nearly 15 minutes more than the second place athlete, A.J. Cooper of Fort Hays State (10). Jacob Robb of Mercyhurst and Mason are tied with 9 pins each, with Robb holding a time advantage of 21:15 to Mason's 25:42.

Bronne and Mason are the lone GMAC wrestlers in the fall category. 

The 8th-ranked Dragons now head to the GMAC Duals at Findlay on Jan. 24-25.
