Dragons drop another close one 61-57

Tiffin University (0-2) was tied with 1:17 to play but could not pull out the win, falling in another close contest 61-57 against Purdue Northwest.

Turnovers plagued the Dragons again, as they had 25 turnovers to Purdue Northwest's 11. The Pride scored 20 points off turnovers while also enjoying a 32-20 edge in the paint.

The Dragons jumped out early to a 10-point lead at the 4:08 mark of the first quarter but the Pride came back to narrow the gap and trailed just 12-10 at the end of the quarter. The game remained close in the second quarter as PNU took a 26-25 lead into halftime.

The Dragons jumped out to a 6-point lead early in the third quarter but PNU bounced back on a 13-6 run to close out the quarter and lead 39-38 heading into the final quarter.

The final five minutes saw both teams trading the lead with each other. Two free throws by Kirsten Williams with 1:33 to play but TU up 55-52. A three-point shot by the Pride tied the score at 55-55.

After PNU took a 57-55 lead, Rachel Reichard hit a shot inside to tie it again 57-57 with 1:17 to play. The Pride hit a jumper and two free throws down the stretch to take a four-point lead while the Dragons missed four shots in the final minute to fall by four.

Williams led the Dragons with 17 points and 9 rebounds, just missing a double-double. Presley Feltner also reached double figures with 10 points and 8 rebounds. Savanah Richards totaled 7 points as did Reichard. Ellie Gabel led the team with 5 assists.

Overall TU outshot PNU 40 percent to 37 percent and outrebounded the Pride 38-30.
