Women’s Basketball Defeated by Walsh 79-71

The Tiffin University women's basketball team was defeated by GMAC opponent Walsh 79-71.

The Cavaliers improve to 23-2 overall and 18-1 in the conference, while the Dragons fall to 12-13 overall and 9-10 in the conference.

Both teams shot well from the field as the Cavaliers shot 55.8 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from three-point territory, while Tiffin shot 50.0 percent from the field and 35.7 from beyond the arc. Tiffin outrebounded the Cavaliers 29-24, had more second chance points 15-8, and Walsh had more fast-break points 6-0.

Tiffin University started the contest on a 10-2 run in the first four minutes of the quarter, but the Cavaliers countered with a 7-0 run to bring the score to 10-9 with 4:14 left in quarter number one. The two teams traded points the rest of the quarter with the Dragons holding a 17-16 lead.

A low-scoring second quarter after the first five minutes saw Walsh up 25-20 after a 9-3 run, but the Dragons countered with a 10-4 spurt to lead 30-29 at halftime.

At the start of the third quarter, the Cavaliers went on a 9-4 run to lead 38-34, but Tiffin responded with a 6-0 run to take back the lead at 40-38. Walsh went on a 10-5 run to lead 48-45 with 3:04 left in the third quarter. The Dragons outscored the Cavaliers 7-4 to tie the game up 52-52 going into the final frame.

Walsh came alive in the fourth as they outscored Tiffin 13-6 to lead 65-58 with 5:11 left in the game. The Cavaliers held their two-shot lead the rest of the game and ended up taking the game 79-71.

Aarion Nichols led the team, recording 22 points shooting 7-for-17 from the field, with four rebounds, and four assists, Dana Rose registered 16 points shooting 6-for-10, grabbed three rebounds, three assists, and two steals, and Jada Tate had 11 points shooting 4-for-4, seven rebounds, and one block.
