Dragons Defeat Conference Opponent Malone in Tough Matchup 64-56

The Tiffin University women's basketball team defeated the Malone Pioneers with a huge fourth-quarter run to win 64-56.

The Dragons improve to 12-12 overall and 9-9 in the GMAC, while the Pioneers fall to 12-10 overall and 8-8 in the GMAC.

The Pioneers jumped out to a quick 9-4 lead in the first quarter. However, Tiffin rallied with a 9-0 run to take a 13-9 lead at the 1:51 mark. The Dragons outscored the visitors 3-2 the rest of the quarter to lead 16-11.

To start quarter number two Malone scored the first two buckets to come within one of the Dragons at 16-15, but Tiffin responded with a 7-0 run to extend their lead to 23-15 midway through the quarter. The Pioneers fought back and went on a 6-0 run to cut the lead down to 23-21 with 3:04 left in the first half. The Dragons finished the half strong, outscoring Malone 7-3 to lead 30-24 at the half.

After halftime, Malone outscored the Dragons 10-4 with two three-pointers to tie the game at 34-34 in the first five minutes of play. The two teams traded points the rest of the quarter and Tiffin was able to come out with a slight 44-41 lead going into the final frame.

Tiffin caught fire in the final frame, going on a 12-1 run to lead 56-42 through the first four minutes of action. Tiffin was able to hold off the Pioneers' late surge with this run and the Dragons pulled off the 64-56 win.

Aarion Nichols led the Dragons in scoring with her seventh double-double on the year, scoring 15 points with 14 rebounds, shooting 4-for-8 from the field, 1-for-1 from three, and 6-for-8 from the free throw line, four steals and three assists. Jada Tate was second on the team with 11 points shooting 5-for-10 from the field, grabbed five rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Kirsten Williams and Brianna O'Connor each had nine points with Williams shooting 4-for-7 from the field, seven rebounds, and two assists and teammate O'Connor shot 2-for-4 from the field and 4-for-4 from the charity stripe, one rebound, and one steal.
