Four Dragons Hit Double Digits in 78-66 Win Over the Storm

Tiffin University posted four players in double figures in a 78-66 win over Lake Erie.

Before the start of the game, the Tiffin University women's basketball program honored Jacoby Hope Arnold in the Hoops for Hope celebration. 

The Dragons improve to 9-8 overall and 6-5 in the conference, while the Storm fall to 1-20 overall and 0-15 in the conference.

As a team the Dragons did well from the field, shooting 46.4 percent and 55.6 percent from three-point range, while Lake Erie shot 43.5 percent from the field and 35 percent from beyond the arc. TU outrebounded the Storm 36 to 31, had more assists 12-9, and had more points in the paint 38-32.   

The Storm grabbed an early 6-4 lead in the first minute of play but the Dragons went on a 7-0 run to lead 11-6 at the 6:44 mark of the first quarter. Lake Erie was able to take a four-point lead going on a 10-1 run to lead 16-12 with 4:05 left in the quarter, but the Dragons countered with a 6-0 run to take back the lead at 18-16. Tiffin finished the quarter with an 8-2 run to lead 26-18 after frame number one.

The second half was a low-scoring affair as the Storm outscored the Dragons 6-4 in the first five minutes of the second quarter to come within six of the Dragons at 30-24. Tiffin extended their lead to nine going on a 5-2 run to lead 35-26. The Dragons held the nine-point lead into the half to lead 42-33.

Tiffin's Dana Rose made a three-point play to start the second half to give the Dragons its largest lead of the game at 45-33. After the teams traded points the Dragons went on a 4-0 run to lead 57-41 with 4:07 left in the third quarter. Tiffin cruised the rest of the third quarter to lead 63-48 going into the final frame.

The Storm, despite being down by double-digits, never said die and outscored the Dragons 18-15 but their late surge was not enough to come close to the Dragons as they won 78-66.

Aarion Nichols led the team in her sixth double-double of the season, scoring 23 points shooting 7-for-14, grabbed 13 rebounds, and a team-high four assists, while Dana Rose stepped up for Tiffin as she set a career-high 20 points shooting 7-for-10 from the field, with five rebounds, a team-high four steals, and two blocks. Savanah Richards tallied 15 points shooting 4-for-8 from the field and 2-for-3 from three-point territory, had three rebounds, two steals, and one assist and teammate Brianna O'Connor recorded 10 points shooting 4-for-8 from the field and 2-for-3 from beyond the arc, one rebound, two assists, and one steal.
