Women’s Basketball Push Past Panthers 57-55

The Tiffin University women's basketball team pushed past Ohio Dominican 57-55.

The Dragons improve to 7-8 overall and 4-5 in the conference, while the Panthers fall to 3-15 overall and 3-9 in the conference.

Tiffin shot the ball better, hitting 24-for-50 from the field (48%) and 7-for-20 from three-point range (35%), while the Panthers shot 19-for-42 from the field (44.2%) and 4-for-15 from beyond the arc (35%). The Dragons had the advantage in assists 15-6, turnovers 15 to 18, and 30 points in the paint compared to 24 for the Panthers.

The Dragons started hot, outscoring the Panthers 11-4 in the first six minutes of play. The Panthers rallied back with an 8-2 run to bring the score to 16-12 with 21 seconds left in the first frame but Savanah Richards drained a three to extend Tiffin's lead to 16-12 to end quarter number one.

In the second quarter the Dragons started with a 5-2 run to lead 21-14 at the 6:51 mark, then Ohio Dominican responded with a 5-2 run of their own to cut Tiffin's lead down to 23-19 with 4:11 left in the first half. However, the Dragons responded by outscoring the Panthers 9-4 the rest of the quarter to lead 32-23 going into halftime.

Halftime adjustments worked wonders for the Panthers as they started the third quarter on a 9-5 run to come within four of the Dragons at 34-30. Richards powered a Dragons' 5-2 run to extend the lead to 39-32. But Ohio Dominican was able to cut down the Dragons lead to one at 41-40 and outscored Tiffin 17-9.

Tiffin started the final frame in fine fashion, outscoring Ohio Dominican 5-0 in the first two minutes of play, but the Panthers didn't give up as they were able to tie the game at 53-53 at the 3:16 mark, outscoring Tiffin 13-5.

After two missed shots by each team, ODU's Gabby Stare made two free throws to take a 55-53 lead for the first time in the second half. The Dragons' Jessica Chase came up clutch, scoring two free throws to tie the game at 55-55. Great defense by the Dragons forced a missed jump shot by the Panthers to give the Dragons the ball with 30 seconds left in the game. Then, in the closing seconds, Chase hit a layup to take a 57-55 lead with seven seconds on the clock. Ohio Dominican would get a shot off but was unable to convert as the Dragons took the 57-55 win over the Panthers.

Savanah Richards led the offense with 19 points shooting 8-for-12 from the field and 3-for-4 from beyond the arc, five rebounds, two assists, and two steals, while Jada Tate scored 14 points shooting 7-for-12, grabbed six rebounds, two assists, and one steal. Dana Rose tallied nine points shooting 4-for-9 from the field, had seven rebounds, and three assists, and teammate Jessica Chase registered seven points shooting 2-for-5 from the field, notched two rebounds, and four assists.
