Women’s Basketball Edged by Cedarville 69-68

The Tiffin University women's basketball squad came up just short against GMAC opponent Cedarville as they lost 69-68 in the final seconds of play.

Cedarville improves to 11-5 overall and 6-4 in the GMAC, while the Dragons fall to 6-8 overall and 3-5 in the GMAC.

Tiffin had an excellent team game shooting 50.8 percent from the field which was better than their host who shot 46.9 percent from the floor, while the Dragons outrebounded the Yellow Jackets 31-27 including 10 offensive rebounds. The Dragons' woes were from the free-throw line where they shot 3-for-9 compared to the Yellow Jackets who scored 16-for-19 from the charity stripe.

Tiffin came out strong, building a 7-2 lead early, but the Yellow Jackets rallied back with an 8-4 run to cut the advantage to one point at 11-10 with 3:29 in the first quarter. The Dragons were able to outscore the host 4-2 to lead 15-12 at the end of the first quarter.

After two made buckets from both teams each team went on a two-minute slump where neither team would score until the Yellow Jackets went on a 13-4 run to take a 27-21 lead over the Dragons at the 3:56 mark in the second quarter. Tiffin responded, outscoring Cedarville 12-7 the rest of the quarter to take a 33-32 lead going into the half.

Halftime adjustments worked wonders for the Dragons as they went on a 14-5 run in the first five minutes of the third quarter to lead the Yellow Jackets 47-37. The Yellow Jackets chipped away at Tiffin's lead the rest of the quarter to only be down 53-48 going into the final frame.

Cedarville carried their momentum over from the end of the third quarter to go on a 6-0 run in the first 2 minutes of play to lead 54-53. The Yellow Jackets kept pouring it on, outscoring the Dragons 14-8 over the next six minutes of play to build up a 68-61 lead with 1:43 left in the game. The Dragons never gave up and were able to claw their way back into the game on a 7-2 run to cut the lead down to one point at 69-68 with 16 seconds left in the game. With the game on the line, Tiffin put the ball in Aarion Nichols's hands and she shot a three-pointer at the buzzer but it didn't fall for her as the Yellow Jackets won 69-68.

The Dragons were led by Aarion Nichols who tallied 20 points shooting 9-for-17 from the field, grabbed 11 rebounds, four steals, and two assists, followed by Jada Tate who registered 14 points shooting 7-for-18 from the field, had six rebounds, one assist, and one steal, and Savanah Richards scored 11 points shooting 5-for-9 from the floor while notching four rebounds.
