The Tiffin University women's basketball team was edged by Ohio Dominican 61-57.
The Panthers improve to 1-5 overall and 1-1 in conference play, while the Dragons fall to 3-5 overall and 0-2 in conference play.
After a tough loss to Cedarville earlier in the week the Dragons bounced back, starting off strong against the Panthers. Tiffin jumped out to a 14-5 lead in the first six minutes of the contest and extended their lead to 20-8 with 1:32 left in the first quarter. The Panthers ended the period on a 5-0 run to cut into the Dragons lead at 20-13 to end the first frame.
Tiffin continued their offensive pressure and opened up their lead to 27-15 with a 7-2 lead early in quarter two. ODU chipped away at the Tiffin lead the rest of the quarter, cutting into the Dragons' advantage to 32-25 to end the first half.
Ohio Dominican came out of halftime on a mission as they went on a 9-4 run to take a 37-36 lead, their first of the game. The two teams took the lead from one another three more times before the Panthers outscored Tiffin 5-0 in the last minute of the quarter to lead 46-42 going into the final frame.
The Panthers continued their run, outscoring the Dragons 6-3 to lead 52-45 with 7:29 left in the fourth and extending their lead to as many as eight at 54-46. The Dragons rallied in the last two minutes, going on a 5-0 run to come within one of the Panthers at 59-57, but clutch free throws by ODU put the game out of reach for the Dragons in the finals second to fall 61-57.
Aarion Nichols led the Dragons with 20 points shooting 9-for-17 from the field, 12 rebounds, two blocks, one steal, and one assist, Jada Tate registered seven points shooting 3-for-7 from the field, grabbed nine rebounds, and had one steal, and Dana Rose recorded seven points shooting 3-for-7 from the field, had four rebounds, and two steals.
