Women’s Basketball Falls 60-45 to Illinois-Springfield

The Tiffin University women's basketball team fell 60-45 to Illinois-Springfield.

The Prairie Stars improve to 2-0 on the season, while the Dragons fall to 1-1 overall. 

A low-scoring first quarter as neither team scored more than five points until 4:01 left in the quarter. Illinois-Springfield was able to build a 9-4 lead but Tiffin quickly went on a 4-2 run to end the first quarter down 11-8. 

The Prairie Stars came out hot in the second quarter, going on an 11-2 run in the first five minutes of the second quarter to lead 22-10. Tiffin chipped away at the host lead the rest of the way and went into halftime down 31-20. 

Illinois-Springfield kept the pressure on in the third frame, leading by as many as 15. UIS outscored the Dragons 15-12 in the third quarter to lead 46-32.

In the final frame, Tiffin chipped away at the Prairie Star lead, outscoring them 13-7 to bring the score to 53-45. However, Illinois-Springfield went on a 7-0 run the rest of the game to win 60-45. 

Jada Tate led the Dragons with 12 points shooting 3-for-5 from the field, grabbed nine rebounds, one assist, one steal, and one block, Kristen Williams had nine points, eight rebounds, and two assists, and Aarion Nichols scored eight points, six rebounds, and two assists. 

UIS held a big 24-10 advantage at the free throw line while also forcing 24 TU turnovers. UIS scored 26 points off of those miscues.
