Second half explosion leads to 81-73 victory

Tiffin University (10-5, 10-5 GMAC) took care of business in the second half, turning up the offense and defense in a 81-73 win over Hillsdale.

The Dragons held Hillsdale to 38 percent shooting in the second half while boosting their own offense at a 53 percent clip, including 11 for 23 from three point land. 

The Dragons also controlled the paint, outscoring Hillsdale 36-22 inside while taking advantage of the Chargers' turnovers withi a 12-6 margin.

After a back and forth first half led to a 38-35 Hilldale halftime lead, the Dragons quickly changed the tone of the second half. They posted a 23-12 edge in the third quarter to finish the period ahead 58-50.

TU did not let up, opening the fourth with a 20-7 run that boosted their lead to 21 points with just 3:22 left. Overall, before making wholesale substitutions with 3:00 to play in the game, TU outscored the Chargers 43-19 in 17 minutes.

TU had a balanced offensive attack, with Aarion Nichols leading the way with 20 points and 6 rebounds. Savanah Richards also had a strong game, totaling 14 points with 4 rebounds and 6 assists.

Jada Tate had 10 points and a team-high 13 rebounds along with 4 assists, while Kirsten Williams also had 10 points and 4 rebounds.

Danelle Bradley added 8 points off the bench, while Jensen Hiegel had 6 points and 4 rebounds and Jessica Chase added 6 points.

TU now takes on first-place Cedarville on Feb. 6 at 1 pm.
