Women’s Basketball Embark on Seven Game Homestand

The Tiffin University women's basketball team ended a three game road stint last week posting a 2-1 record, with wins over Lake Erie and Ohio Valley. The Dragons begin their homestand on Wednesday, Feb. 3 against Hillsdale with a 5:30 p.m. start and finish the week with a game against Cedarville on Saturday, Feb. 6 with the game set to start at 1:00 p.m.

Dragon Details

The Dragons are 3-1 over their last four games.

Last time out the Dragons knocked off Ohio Valley 73-42. The Dragons shot 43.5 percent from the field and 35 percent from beyond the arc, while TU's defense held the Scots to 24.6 percent from the field and 11.5 percent from beyond the arc.

Tiffin's defense ranks first in the conference as they hold their opponents to 63.4 points per game. The Dragons rank third in the conference in opponent field goal percentage at 38.8 and second in the conference in three point defense holding opponents to 28.5 percent from beyond the arc. 

Aarion Nichols and Savanah Richards lead the offense for Tiffin. Nichols ranks amongst the national leaders in points, rebounds, assists, and steals, averaging 14.5 points, 8.8 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 1.8 steals. Teammate Richards ranks amongst the national leaders in points and assists and averages 14.6 points, 3.9 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 1.5 steals. 

 

Scouting the Chargers

The Chargers were 0-2 last week against Lake Erie and Ohio Dominican.

Hillsdale's offense is led by Grace Touchette scoring 15.2 points and 38.3 percent from the field, 3.5 rebounds, and 3.8 assists. Sydney Mills and Lauren Daffenberg are also in double figures, with Mills averaging a double-double with 13.0 points shooting 39.6 from the field, 10.5 rebounds, and 1.3 assists and teammate Daffenberg scoring 10.4 points shooting 39.4 percent from the field, 3.3 rebounds, and 0.8 assists. 

The Chargers lead the all-time series against the Dragons 14-8, with their last meeting coming earlier this year on Jan. 16 with the Dragons claiming the 70-56 win. 

 

Scouting the Yellow Jackets 

Cedarville went 3-0 last week against Lake Erie, Ohio Valley, and Ursuline. 

The Yellow Jackets have four players in double figures, led by Ashlyn Huffman at 15.1 points shooting 46.2 percent from the field, 5.6 rebounds, 5.7 assists, and 1.6 steals followed by Isabelle Bolender who averages 13.9 points shooting 52 percent from the field, 4.7 rebounds, and 0.9 assists. 

Emily Chapman averages 13.3 points shooting 56.5 percent, 4.9 rebounds, and 3.1 assists, and teammate Allison Mader averages 11.0 points shooting 41.1 percent from the field, 3.2 rebounds and 1.1 assists.  

The Yellow Jackets lead the all-time series against the Dragons 5-2, the last meeting between these two programs was Jan. 2, 2021 when Cedarville won 79-65.
