Dragons Take Down Pioneers, Earn Big Road Win

CANTON, Ohio - Tiffin women's basketball came through in the clutch on Wednesday, outscoring Malone by eight in the fourth quarter to earn a 69-61 road victory.

Tied at 47 after three quarters of action, Savanah Richards started off the final period with an and-one layup, followed quickly by a three form Jensen Hiegel that put the Dragons up four. Tiffin would open the frame on a 14-4 run, as another Richards layup made it 61-51 with 5:52 to play.

Malone cut the lead to three, 64-61, on a triple with just 70 seconds remaining, but the Dragons were able to convert a few free throws and hold the Pioneers off the scoreboard the rest of the way to take the eight-point win.

Aarion Nichols led Tiffin with 19 points, nine rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Richards finished with 16 points and four assists, while Jada Tate recorded the third double-double of her career with 10 points and 13 boards.

The Dragons were able to hold the Pioneers in check on the defensive end, holding Malone to just 35.9% shooting from the field and 25.8% from deep. Tiffin also outrebounded Malone 44-34, including 12 on the offensive end.

Tiffin will look to make it three wins in a row to start the season when they visit Findlay on Friday. The tip is set for 1:00 p.m.
