Dragons Picked Seventh in GMAC Preseason Poll

INDIANAPOLIS - The Great Midwest Athletic Conference announced the women's basketball preseason poll on Wednesday, with Tiffin women's basketball slotted seventh heading into the 2020-21 season.

The Dragons earned 50 points in the coaches' poll, edging out 44 points from Ursuline and 43 points from Hillsdale to grab that seventh spot. Defending regular-season and tournament champion Walsh led the way with 121 points and 11 of the 12 first-place votes.

Kentucky Wesleyan slotted in second with 107 points and earned the other first-place selection. Cedarville (98 points), Findlay (96 points), Malone (83 points), and Ohio Dominican (63 points) rounded out the top six.

After finishing seventh in the final regular-season standings a year ago to earn their first conference postseason berth since 2012, Tiffin is poised to continue their climb up the GMAC ranks. The Dragons return 89% of the minutes played, 91% of the scoring, and 93% of the rebounding from the 2019-20 campaign, led by Second Team All-GMAC pick Aarion Nichols (14.6 ppg, 7.4 rpg, 3.2 apg, and 1.6 spg as a sophomore).

Miriam Justinger takes over the head coaching duties after serving as the top assistant for the last two seasons. Including Nichols, the Dragons return their top seven scorers with Savanah Richards (9.2 ppg as a freshman), Brooke Wesner (8.8 ppg as a junior), Jada Tate (7.8 ppg, 6.2 rpg as a freshman), Jasmine Watts (7.5 ppg, 4.8 rpg as a sophomore), Danelle Bradley (5.2 ppg as a junior), and Jensen Hiegel (5.1 ppg, 4.3 rpg, and 2.6 apg as a junior).

The Dragons also welcome three transfers and three freshmen to the program that figure to contribute immediately.

TU is set to play a 22-game conference-only schedule this year starting in early December, facing each GMAC program twice. The GMAC Championships are slated to take place during the first week of March.
