ATLANTA - The Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) released the 2019-20 Academic Top 25 Team Honor Rolls on Tuesday afternoon, and Tiffin women's basketball comes in tied for fourth in team GPA across all of NCAA Division II.
The Dragons posted a team GPA of 3.779 during the 2019-20 year, equalling Lubbock Christian for fourth on the DII list. Seton Hill led the way at 3.831, followed by Ashland at 3.802 and Eckerd at 3.788.
In her two seasons at the helm, head coach Jessie Ivey has ensured that academics are a very high priority for the program. During the 2018-19 campaign, the Dragons led all of DII with a team mark of 3.809 and have now backed that up with another top-five finish in 2019-20.
"I'm so proud of our team's commitment to the classroom," said Ivey. "This is a huge honor for our players, the women's basketball program, and Tiffin University. This type of national recognition shows how blessed we are to have a strong support system for our student-athletes at TU. For our players to embrace the challenge of being a champion on the court and in the classroom is a huge testament to their dedication and the commitment of Tiffin University to their success. It's a great day to be a Dragon!"
Tiffin was the only GMAC member represented on the Top 25 list, while Ashland (2nd), Lindenwood (6th), Michigan Tech (8th), Wisconsin-Parkside (9th), McKendree (11th), and Rockhurst (14th) accounted for six other programs from the Midwest Region.
The WBCA Academic Top 25 recognizes NCAA Division I, II and III, NAIA and two-year GPAs inclusive of all student-athletes on their rosters for the entire season. The 2019-20 season is the 25th in which the WBCA has compiled the honor rolls.
"The WBCA applauds these head coaches and their teams for their commitment to academic excellence," said WBCA Executive Director Danielle Donehew. "We appreciate and value the hard work and dedication the players and coaches have put forth to thrive in the classroom and on the basketball court."
