Dragons Fall to Findlay in Final Seconds

TIFFIN, Ohio - For the second game in a row, Tiffin women's basketball nearly completed a late comeback as they tied the game at 66 but Findlay converted a free throw with less than a second to play to win 67-66 on Saturday afternoon.

Trailing 61-49 with 5:45 remaining in the game, a three from Kirsten Williams ignited a 9-0 run over the next two minutes that cut the deficit to three on a Savanah Richards bucket at the 3:25 mark. Findlay answered with a basket of their own, but Tiffin would bring the deficit all the way down to one, 65-64, on a Jada Tate layup with 30 seconds remaining.

The Oilers went one for two from the line on their next possession, giving Tiffin the ball with a chance to tie or take the lead. Aarion Nichols drove baseline and got fouled with 17 seconds to play, and converted both free throw attempts to even the score at 66.

Holding for the last shot, Findlay's Amber Schweiger got into the lane and missed a layup, but teammate Sydney Kin pulled down the rebound and got fouled with just .4 remaining on the clock. Kin missed the first attempt, but gave the Oilers the lead on the second free throw that would prove to be the game-winner.

The final numbers were fairly even across the board, with Findlay holding a slight advantage in shooting at 36.5% to Tiffin's 32.8%, but the Dragons taking the rebounding battle 45-44 and committing one less turnover (13-14).

TU also grabbed 15 offensive rebounds in the game, leading to an 18-7 advantage in second-chance points.

Nichols led Tiffin with her third-straight double-double, scoring 19 points and pulling down 10 boards while also dishing out five assists.

Brooke Wesner tallied 13 points including three triples, while Jada Tate added 10 points and seven rebounds.

The Dragons return to action next Thursday on the road when they visit Cedarville at 5:30 p.m.
