Furious Rally Falls Short as Dragons Fall to Chargers

TIFFIN, Ohio - Tiffin women's basketball nearly came back from a seven-point deficit with less than three minutes to play, but Hillsdale held off the rally to take a 62-59 win on Thursday night.

With the Chargers leading 58-51 and 2:49 remaining, Aarion Nichols converted a pair of free throws, Jada Tate added a layup, and Savanah Richards cut the deficit to one with a layup after Nichols stole the ensuing inbounds pass. That was as close as the Dragons would come, however, as Hillsdale converted free throws to hold on for the win.

Neither team shot well in the game, with Tiffin at 36.9% from the field and 29.2% from deep while Hillsdale was 34.4% and 25.6%, respectively. The Dragons only turned the ball over 13 times, but were outrebounded 48-39.

The Dragons had a large advantage in the paint at 32-20, but Hillsdale made up for it as 10 of their 22 made shots were from deep.

Nichols led TU with her second-straight double-double, scoring 17 points and grabbing 12 rebounds while also recording three assists and three steals. Jensen Hiegel was also in double figures for Tiffin with 11 points, including three triples. Jada Tate had a solid game down low as well, recording nine points and seven boards.

The Dragons look to bounce back quickly when they host local rival Findlay at 1:00 p.m.
