Dragons Drop Exhibition at Akron

AKRON, Ohio - Tiffin women's basketball went on the road to the University of Akron on Sunday afternoon for an exhibition contest, falling to the Zips by a final score of 90-38.

Jasmine Watts just missed a double-double to lead the Dragons with eight points and eight rebounds, including three on the offensive end, along with no turnovers and three blocks.

Aarion Nichols was next with seven points, followed by Kirsten Williams with six. Maria Dobson and Savanah Richards also both contributed five points in the Dragon effort.

Tiffin played very well on the boards, securing 34 rebounds to Akron's 36.

Akron got off to a very hot start, scoring the first 17 points of the game and taking a 32-5 lead after one quarter. Tiffin's defense picked up the pace in the second quarter, holding the Zips to just 13 points as the Dragons went into halftime trailing 45-14.

Tiffin had their best quarter in the third period, putting 17 points on the board. Eight different Dragons scored in the stanza, led by Watts with three points and four boards. 

The game was the second of three exhibition contests against Division I opponents this season for the Dragons after dropping a close game at Toledo a week ago. The third DI matchup comes at the end of December at Miami (Ohio).

Tiffin's official season opener comes next weekend, as they make the drive to Springfield, Ill. for two games as part of the GMAC-GLVC Crossover. The Dragons will take on host Illinois-Springfield on Friday before facing McKendree on Saturday.
