Dragons Contained by Panthers

OWENSBORO, Ky. - Tiffin women's basketball kept it close early, but G-MAC leader Kentucky Wesleyan eventually pulled away and took an 87-62 victory on Saturday afternoon.

Sarah Cummings finished with 14 points and six boards to lead the Dragons, while Jasmine Watts added 12 points, nine rebounds, and two blocks. Jensen Hiegel also finished in double figures for TU with 10 points on the afternoon.

While turnovers were about even between the two teams, the Dragons were able to take advantage of opportunities and outscore the Panthers in points off turnovers, 19-13.

Down 19-12 with 4:10 remaining in the opening quarter, Hiegel knocked down a jumper and Mary Redmond nailed a three to bring the Dragons to within two. KWC added three points before the end of the quarter, though, and led 22-17 after one.

The Dragons quickly brought the deficit back down to two, though, as Watts made a free throw and Ali Schirmer put through a jumper. However, the Panthers outscored the Dragons 24-9 over the rest of the first-half to go into the break up 46-29.

The Panther defense clamped down in the second half as well, as KWC was able to lead by as many as 30 before taking the 25-point win.

The Dragons return back to Ohio and complete their five-game road swing next Saturday when they travel to face Cedarville at 1:00 p.m.
