Dragons Defeat Battlers for Second Win of the Weekend

TIFFIN, Ohio - Tiffin women's basketball led from start to finish and enjoyed their highest scoring game of the year as they knocked off Alderson Broaddus 84-72 on Friday evening.

The Dragons were able to build a lead of as many as 20 late in the fourth quarter as they improve to 2-9 in the G-MAC and 5-21 overall.

Sarah Cummings led the way for the home team with a career-high-tying 17 points and narrowly missed a double-double by pulling down nine boards. Allie Miller added 13 points and four assists of the bench, while Ali Schirmer and Jensen Hiegel notched 10 apiece. Schirmer also made some history on the night, as her third assist of the evening broke the senior into the top-10 career assists rankings at Tiffin. Jasmine Watts also had another great all-around game, recording nine points, six rebounds, and three blocks.

The Dragons shot the best percentage from the field that they have all season, hitting 30-59 shots for a rate of 50.8%. They also went 9-22 (40.9%) from deep and 15-18 (83.3%) from the free-throw line. All of the numbers were in TU's favor, as Tiffin outgained Alderson Broaddus 42-34 in rebounds, 22-9 in assists, and 32-30 in points off the bench.

The game stayed close for the first quarter, as the Dragons took a 21-15 lead after the opening 10 minutes. A Georgia Perrott-Hunt layup and Cummings extended the lead to eight, 26-18, two minutes into the second quarter, and an Allie Miller triple gave the Dragons their biggest lead of the first-half at 45-32 with just over a minute to play before the break.

The Battlers cut the deficit with a layup at the buzzer, but Tiffin went into halftime up 45-34.

Alderson Broaddus was able to whittle the margin down to six, 49-43, at the 5:03 mark of the third, but a Mary Redmond triple ignited a 12-5 run that put the Dragons up 61-48 at the end of the quarter. 

Late in the fourth, it was a Watts layup that gave Tiffin its biggest lead of the night at 76-56 with just over three minutes to play. The Battlers fought to the end, but Tiffin went on to win 84-72.

The Dragons will look to make it three wins in a row when they continue the homestand with Ohio Valley University on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
