Dragons hold off Oilers 77-71

Tiffin University (5-12, 3-9 GLIAC) maintained their composure in a hard fought second half and played strong in the final quarter, beating the University of Findlay 77-71.

Tiffin opened the first quarter strong, outscoring Findlay 26-18 while shooting a blistering 60 percent. While they fell off to 33 percent in the second quarter, they continued to hold Findlay in check defensively, taking a 42-38 lead into the halftime locker room.

At the break TU was hitting 48 percent of their shots including 9 three pointers while holding UF scoreless from three. Findlay stayed in the game by connecting on 16 of 18 free throws. Bre Nauman led the way with 11 points and 6 rebounds in the half.

In the second half, Findlay came out hot, hitting 71 percent of their shots and taking the lead after a big 17-5 run. But the Dragons refused to back down, regrouping to outscore Findlay 20-6 in the fourth quarter.

With the score tied 68-68 with 4:07 to play, the Dragons bore down, outscoring Findlay 9-3 the rest of the way.

Overall TU hit 13 three pointers and held Findlay to 4 treys. While Findlay outrebounded TU 39-29 and held a 30-10 scoring edge in the paint, the Dragons got 24 points off of Findlay's 21 turnovers. TU also only had 13 turnovers.

Bre Nauman finished with 15 points and 8 rebounds, as did Sarah Cummings who also had 15 points with 8 boards. Ali Schirmer and Deidre McKay had 10 apiece.
