TU suffers setbacks against Washburn, Rogers State

Tiffin University (4-11) had a rough day at the office against two teams with a combined record of 34-4, as they fell to Washburn 7-4 and Rogers State 24-3.

Washburn (19-3) fell behind early as the Dragons opened with a 4-2 lead after three innings and a lead into the fifth inning.

In the first Katie Deardorff doubled and came home on a two-run home run by Tara Gall as TU jumped out to a 2-0 lead.

In the second, Maci Head walked and moved up on a sacrifice. Bailey Hamilton then singled and Taylor Whalen followed with another single to drive her home for another run.

In the third, Gall doubled and, after moving to third, came home on a grounder to second base to push TU's lead to 4-2.

Washburn took control in the fifth as they scored three runs to move ahead on the scoreboard. TU managed just two runners in scoring position over the last four innings.

Isabella St. Peter started and went 3 innings, allowing 3 earned runs on 6 hits. Claire Feldkamp took the loss, allowing 2 earned runs over 2 innings of work.

Gall had 2 hits with a double and home run for 2 RBI, while Head had a triple and Deardorff added a double.

Against Rogers State (15-1), Feldkamp allowed 8 earned runs over 5.2 innings of work. Rogers State banged out 17 hits and tallied 15 runs in the sixth inning. Tiffin managed 7 hits but also committed four errors.

The game started well, as TU jumped out to a 3-1 lead. In the first, Whalen reached on an error at shortstop followed by a Deardorff single. Both batters moved up on a wild pitch, as Gall walked to load the bases. Head then had another big  hit, doubling in two runs. An error by the pitcher allowed another run to score.

Rogers State jumped ahead with 6 runs in the fourth inning and never looked back.

Head had two more hits with a double for 2 RBI, while Whalen also had two hits.
