Dragons fall in Florida opener

Tiffin University (2-5) dropped a pair of games to Assumption to open their Florida trip 10-2 and 7-4.

Tiffin held the lead early in the opener, scoring twice in the second and third innings. Tara Gall hit a triple in the second and came home on Caitlin Wilson's single. They added to the lead in the third when Mackenzie Dietrick doubled. Taylor Whalen then singled and Bailey Hamilton walked, with Dietrick coming home on a groundout by Katie Deardorff.

Assumption tied it with two runs in the fourth and then blew the game open with 8 more runs over the final 3 innings including five runs in the 7th inning.

Claire Feldkamp took the loss, going 5 innings and allowing 2 earned runs with 4 walks and 5 strikeouts.

TU had 5 hits overall, with Gall having a triple and Dietrick a double.

In game two, Isabella St. Peter started and went 4 innings, allowing 2 earned runs with 5 strikeouts. Feldkamp took the loss in relief, allowing 5 earned runs in 2 innings. 

TU again had the lead early but allowed 5 runs while leading 4-2 in the fifth inning.

In the first, Whalen walked and Gall drove her home with a home run.

TU added two more runs in the second. Dietrick walked and Lydia Kobie reached on an error by the pitcher. Hamilton singled, and Michelle Rodkey drove in a run with another single. Whalen then got another run across the plate with a sacrifice fly.

TU managed 5 hits in the second game, highlighted by Gall's home run.
