Dragons get split at Notre Dame

Tiffin University (10-10) won the opener at Notre Dame, getting a split on the day with an 8-5 win and a 3-2 loss in 8 innings.

In the victory, Claire Feldkamp went 7 innings on the mound, fanning 9 and allowing 4 earned runs for the win.

TU won the game with four runs in the sixth inning. Tied 4-4, Kirsten Georges and Aubrie Harper singled. They were joined on base by Maddie Legg after she walked. Caitlin Wilson then drove in a run with a single. After Katie Deardorff reached on a fielder's choice, Taylor Whalen then singled to load the bases. Maddie Woods walked for an RBI, and Kaylee Savage stroked another single for two more runs to make it 8-4.

TU opened its scoring in the first inning. Woods reached on a fielder's choice, moved to third on Savage's double, and came home on Maci Head's sacrifice fly.

Trailing 3-1 in the fourth inning, Savage doubled and came home on Head's double. Georges then singled and, after Harper reached on a fielder's choice, Wilson drove the tying run home with a single.

TU also scored in the fifth. Bailey Hamilton walked, Whalen then singled, and consecutive fielder's choices by Woods and Savage got another run home.

Savage had three hits for 3 RBI with two doubles, while Whalen also had three hits. Wilson and Head and two hits and two RBI apiece, while Georges also had two hits.

In the nightcap, trailing 1-0 in the third inning with two outs, Whalen singled, stole second, and came home on Woods's RBI single.

The game remained tied into extra innings. In the top of the eighth, Whalen was placed on second and was sacrificed to third. Savage then doubled her home as TU took a 2-1 lead into the bottom of the inning.

Notre Dame responded with two singles and a double to get the walkoff victory.

Sarah Klein took the tough loss, going 7+ innings and fanning six while allowing two earned runs.

Harper had two hits in the game, while Savage added a double.
