Dragons get two wins in Florida

Tiffin University (4-5) got two wins in Florida, beating Fairmont State 6-1 before defeating Holy Family 8-6.

In the opener against Fairmont State, Claire Feldkamp was strong on the mound, going 7 innings and allowing one earned run while fanning 10. She also allowed only one walk.

Trailing 1-0 in the third inning, Taylor Whalen singled and Maddie Woods walked. Kaylee Savage followed with another single, and Maci Head then singled to drive in two runs.

TU added to their lead in the fifth, as Woods doubled, stole third, and came home on Aubrie Harper's sac fly.

In the sixth inning, Hallie Sheehan walked and came home on Maddie Legg's big home run shot.

Lastly, in the seventh, Sheehan reached on an error, moved up on Faith Renwick's single, and came home after a Bailey Hamilton single to finish the scoring.

Taylor Whalen, Woods, and Savage all had two hits, with Woods getting two doubles. Legg and Head each had two RBIs in the game.

Against Holy Family, Sarah Klein started and went 4 innings for the win. She allowed 3 hits and fanned 3 while allowing 4 earned runs. Shelbey Spurlock then tossed the final three innings to get her first save on the year. She allowed 2 earned runs.

In the first, Whalen and Woods walked. Savage then drove in one run with a single, and another run came home on Renwick's groundout to second base.

Trailing 4-2 in the second inning, Caitlin Wilson and Whalen opened with singles and then both came home when Woods laced another double to tie the game 4-4.

More offense for the Dragons in the third inning, as Harper opened with a home run. Kennedy Rorar then singled while Wilson reached on a fielder's choice. Three straight walks brought runs across, as Hamilton, Woods, and Savage all drew free passes.

Holy Family picked up two runs in the fourth inning to get to within 7-6, but TU got another run when Harper and Rorar singled. Alyssa Gettys then singled to drive in a run and make it 8-6.

TU pitched out of jams in the final three innings with runners in scoring position to hold on to the victory.
