Dragons beat Lindenwood 3-1 for first win

Tiffin University (1-3) got its first win of the season with a 3-1 victory over Lindenwood in Smyrna, Tennessee.

The win followed a 15-0 five-inning loss to Indianapolis.

In the win over Lindenwood, TU got strong pitching from winner Sarah Klein and reliever Claire Feldkamp. Klein went 4.1 innings and allowed just 5 hits and one earned run with 4 strikeouts. Feldkamp provided 2.2 innings of two-hit ball.

TU got on the board first in the fourth inning. Kaylee Savage singled, and Bria Dailey came in as pinch runner. A wild pitch sent her to second, and Kirsten Georges's RBI single drove her home to make it 1-0, TU.

Lindenwood tied it in the bottom of the frame with a two-out single.

TU responded immediately with two runs in the top of the fifth. Bailey Hamilton walked, moved to second on a passed ball and reached third as Taylor Whalen was safe on a fielder's choice. Maddie Woods also reached on a fielder's choice as Hamilton was thrown out in a rundown at home, putting runners on second and third for TU. A subsequent passed ball allowed both runners to score to make it 3-1, Tiffin.

In the bottom of the fifth with Lindenwood runners on second and third, Feldkamp got a runner thrown out at home on a fielder's choice, with Whalen throwing a strike to Savage to tag out the runner. A liner to shortstop Hamilton ended the threat. Lindenwood only managed one more single for the rest of the game.

In the opening game, things did not go TU's way as they managed no hits and committed 6 errors. Only 5 of Indy's 15 runs were earned, while TU struck out 12 times.

Libby Schaadt took the loss, lasting one inning and allowing 3 earned runs on 6 hits. Tegan Wietrzykowski finished the game with 3.1 innings of work, allowing just one earned run with 5 hits.
