Dragons drop two in season opening twinbill

Tiffin University (0-2) dropped two games at Carson-Newman in their season-opening twinbill, falling 15-0 in 5 innings and 9-5 in the nightcap.

Tiffin did its most damage in the second game, battling back and forth with C-N until the game was broken open when the Dragons allowed five runs. 

TU got a run in the first when Brooke Lambert walked, reached third on an error by the pitcher on Maddie Woods grounder, and scored on Laura Teunion-Smith's sacrifice fly.

With the score tied 1-1, TU got another run in the second. Caitlin Wilson stroked an inside the park home run to give the Dragons the lead.

Carson-Newman picked up a couple runs in the bottom of the frame to lead 3-2, but TU tied it in the third. Skylar Legg walked and moved to second on a fielder's choice. Wilson then picked up a single that moved her to third. Hallie Sheehan's groundout to shortstop got the run home to tie the score 3-3.

After C-N knocked starter Claire Feldkamp out of the game with five runs in the bottom of the third, the Dragons tried to get back in it with a couple runs in the sixth inning. With two out, Bailey Hamilton singled and scored on Logan Bush's double. Bush then came home on Teunion-Smith's single, but the Dragons could get no closer.

Feldkamp took the loss, going 2.1 innings and allowing 8 earned runs. Shelbey Spurlock tossed 0.2 innings, and Victoria Edwards finished up with 3 innings, allowing one earned run.

Teunion-Smith had two hits with a double and 2 RBI, while Wilson added two hits with a home run. Logan Bush also had a double and RBI.

In the opener, Sarah Klein lasted just 1.1 innings, allowing 7 earned runs. Carson-Newman totaled 3 in the first, 8 in the second, and 4 more in the third inning.

Isabella St. Peter followed with an inning of work, allowing 8 earned runs, while Libby Schaadt closed with 1.2 innings.

Kaylee Savage had a triple in the game, while Lambert, Brooklynn Esser, Woods, and Taylor Whalen added singles.
