Dragons rally for 4 runs in 7th to down Rockhurst in season opener

Tiffin University (1-1) got its 2020 softball season off to a dramatic start, scoring four runs in the bottom of the 7th to defeat Rockhurst 5-4.

The Dragons found themselves in a hole early, trailing 4-0 in the 6th inning. The Dragons started their comeback in the sixth inning when two errors and a walk loaded the bases.

A fielder's choice by Chloe Swaisgood pushed the first run across the plate as the Dragons climbed to within 4-1. After Kaylee Savage was hit by a pitch to load the bases again, but a double play ended the Dragons' threat and send the game to the 7th inning.

With one out in Tiffin's final at-bats, Brooklynn Esser reached on an error at shortstop and Gabrielle Hess was walked. Hayley Kobie then followed with a pinch hit single to drive in one run. 

Madie Legg followed with another single and RBI to make the score 4-3. Heidi Marshall then drilled a double to tie the score at 4-4. Tiffin finished the comeback when Swaisgood laid down a bunt single for the game-winning RBI.

Marshall had two hits with a double and RBI, while Swaisgood contributed 2 RBI. 

Sarah Klein got the win over 7 innings, allowing 2 earned runs while fanning 4.

In the second game, 12th-ranked Indianapolis lived up to its ranking with a big 10-0 win in 5 innings.

The Dragons managed just one hit and 4 walks, with Brooke Lambert getting the lone hit. The Greyhounds racked up 10 hits and 6 walks.

Shelbey Spurlock took the loss, allowing 9 earned runs over one inning. Hallie Sheehan finished up with 3 innings in relief, allowing one earned run.
