Dragons get road split with Cedarville

Tiffin University (26-15, 16-8 G-MAC) made the most of its scoring opportunities, scoring 6 runs in the 4th inning of game two to post an 8-6 win and get a split with Cedarville.

Tiffin dropped the opener 5-2 but took advantage of fielding miscues by the Yellow Jackets to get the win in game two. TU got on the board in the 2nd inning when Hayley Kobie and Gabrielle Hess both singled and advanced on a wild pitch. Abbey Zedaker then got a run home with a sacrifice fly.

TU jumped ahead with a big fourth inning. Brooke Lambert reached on an error at shortstop and moved up on a wild pitch. Chloe Swaisgood then was hit by a pitch, and Lambert then came home on an error from the pitcher on Kobie's sacrifice. Hess then got another run in on a sacrifice fly. Zedaker walked and moved up on a wild pitch, and Heidi Marshall's fielder's choice got Kobie across the plate. Libby Crow then had the big hit of the inning, lacing a double for two runs. Kirsten Georges then singled for another RBI to make it 7-1.

Cedarville stayed in the game, getting a single run in the 4th and two more in the 6th to make it 7-4. With two outs, TU tacked on an insurance run when Lambert doubled and came home on Swaisgood's single.

In the bottom of the 7th, CU got two runs home off relief pitcher Tiffany Snell to make it 8-6. With the tying runs on base and no one out, starting pitcher Victoria Edwards reentered the game and got out of the jam with two strikeouts and a grounder back to the pitcher to preserve the win.

Edwards tossed 6.1 innings overall, allowing 4 earned runs. Lambert and Crow had doubles. Cedarville had 13 hits but stranded 11 baserunners.

In the opener Sarah Klein took the loss, allowing 4 earned runs in 4 innings of work. TU managed just 5 hits.

Trailing 1-0 in the third inning, Georges tripled and came home on Jamie Sevenish's sac fly. That tied the score 1-1.

Cedarville picked up 3 runs in the third inning to take a 4-1 lead. The Dragons made it a little closer in the 6th when Kobie singled. Lexi Potapczak then pinch ran followed by Swaisgood's walk. Both runners advanced on a groundout to second base, with Potapzcak then scoring on a wild pitch. But the Dragons could get no closer.

Lambert had two hits for TU, while Georges also tripled.
