Men's track squad cruises to GMAC Outdoor Championship

Tiffin University won its second consecutive GMAC Outdoor Track and Field Championship in runaway fashion.

The Dragons outpaced second-place Findlay by 109 points (267 to 158), having a magnificent final day of competition that saw them crown 9 different event champions. They also won the outdoor title in 2019, while last year's championship was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Elijah Gauldin was named GMAC Track Athlete of the Meet, accounting for 20.5 points, while Lloyd McCurdy was named GMAC Co-Field Athlete of the Meet with Findlay's Austin Combs, with both of them accounting for 20 points.

Gauldin was part of two championships, winning the 100 meters in 10.67 seconds while also teaming with Quincy Scott, Brentt Ballard, and Michael McNeil to win the 4x100 in 42.05. He also was second in the 200 in 21.79.

McCurdy, meanwhile, also won two titles in record-breaking fashion. He was first in the triple jump with a provisional and GMAC-record leap of 15.68 meters, while also winning the javelin with another GMAC record throw of 56.05.

Lenell Shelby III crushed another GMAC record by winning the 400 hurdles in a provo time of 51.65 while also teaming with Drew Hickman, McNeil, and Dorian Hooker to win the 4x400 relay in another GMAC record time of 3:15.88.

Hooker picked up a championship in the 200 meters in 21.53, while Nathaniel Ondracek also won the 5000 in 15:17.25. 

In other field events, Ralph Casper was shot put champ with an automatic mark of 19.30, followed by Nikolas Curtiss in second with another AQ mark of 18.87. 

TU got other top marks from Hickman in the 400 (2nd in 48.01), Thomas Zor (2nd in 400 hurdles), and Garrett Wilson (3rd in javelin with 54.98).

Other noteworthy finishes for TU included Hooker (4th in 400), Stephen Powell (4th in 100), Benedict Draghi (4th in shot put), Eric Jackson (5th in shot put), Steele Butzin (5th in javelin), Dean Johnson (6th in 400 hurdles), Dylan Hammond (6th in 5000), Errik Snell (7th in 400 hurdles), McNeil (7th in 200), Jaden Wimbush (7th in 5000), Jacob Goudy (7th in javelin), and Nicholas Runco (7th in 800).
