Croy Named Finalist for USTFCCCA Men's Coach of the Year

NEW ORLEANS – Finalists for National Athletes & Coaches of the Year for the 2020 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field season were announced on Friday morning by the USTFCCCA, and Tiffin head coach Jeremy Croy has been named one of three finalists for the Men's Coach of the Year honor.

The other two finalists for the award are Bryan Schiding of Missouri Southern and Victor Thomas of Lincoln (Mo.). Croy has received the honor twice in his coaching career, 2016 and 2017, the same two seasons that the men won DII Indoor titles.

This season, Croy led a Tiffin men's squad that was ranked in the top-five of the USTFCCCA's rating index each week, including three weeks in the No. 1 spot. Prior to the weekend that the indoor championships were scheduled, the Dragons were ranked third in the nation.

Tiffin qualified nine athletes and 11 entries to indoor nationals on the men's side this season, with both Jonte Baker (60m) and Cameron Burrows (high jump) at the top of their events. The Dragons also had four throwers qualify in the shot put, a squad that held the second-highest average distance in the nation, regardless of division. In addition to the shot put, Tiffin's 60m hurdles squad also ranked first in Division II, while the 60m and long jump groups were both second in the nation.

At the end of February, the men claimed their second-straight GMAC Championship, won handily by 93 points over the next highest program. During the nine weeks of the regular season, the Dragons also received 12 of the possible 18 GMAC Athlete of the Week honors. Four awards came on the track while TU earned eight honors in the field, only missing the one week that the Dragons did not compete in any meets.

To become a finalist, Croy was among the top-3 vote-getters in his category when the first round of voting by member coaches was conducted from Wednesday afternoon into early Friday morning.

There will be a final vote by member coaches beginning Monday morning and those winners will be named National Athletes & Coaches of the Year for the 2020 indoor season.
