Dragons finish 3rd at NCAA Outdoor National Championships

Tiffin University scored 35 points on the final day of the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships but came up just short in finishing 3rd overall in the men's field.

The Dragons were tied with Ashland with 50 points apiece with just one event remaining, but St. Augustine's and Lincoln finished 1-2 in the 4x400 relay to vault over both teams. St. Augustine's won the national men's title with 58 points, while Lincoln was second with 52. TU and Ashland tied with 50 for the third spot.

TU's Coy Blair won the national championship in the shot put, tossing the shot 64-5.25 (19.64) for the title. Eric Jackson took 6th in the event as TU got 14 points from their throwers.

James Ngandu picked up 8 more points and his 16th total point in the championships by finishing 2nd in the 5000 meters in a time of 14:03.01. The 4x100 relay team of Shaquille Hildreth, Jonte Baker, Michael King, and Reginald Thomas also took 2nd, shattering the school record yet again in finishing in a blistering 39.85.

TU also got 5 more points from Thomas in the 100 meters, as he took 4th in 10.34.

Cameron Burrows also finished 11th in the high jump with 6-9.

In women's action, Mary Boyden finished 13th in the shot put with 46-7.25.
