Dragons win Northeast Region title

Tiffin University's women's wrestling team dominated the field at the NCWWC Northeast Regional qualifier, beating six other teams as they look ahead to the National Championships.

Overall Tiffin outpaced Adrian College 190.5 to 159.5, while Gannon was third with 131.5.

The Dragons registered five champions along with six runner-ups while also advancing 14 grapplers to the National Championships. 

Shanna Morris (101 pounds), Sugey Ceja (123), Trinity Berry (130), Marta Ojeda (155), and Jessie Lee (191) all won Region titles, with Trinity Oredina (101), Stephanie Mondragon (123), Eunique Davis (130), Nia Miranda (143), Taylor Hites (155), and Morgan Davidson (170) all finishing second.

Morris beat Adrian 12-2 before defeating Oredina in the title match 11-4. Oredina pinned Gannon in 45 seconds to advance to the title match.

Ceja won her title with a 10-0 shutout over Adrian.

Berry had three powerhouse bouts, opening with a pin over Gannon in 1:56, then defeating Adrian 10-0. She defeated Mondragon in the title bout via pin in 3:36. Mondragon pinned Gannon in 2:21 to get to the title bout.

Ojeda opened with two pins, one over Gannon in 2:15 and another over Adrian in 1:52. She then defeated Hites 6-1 in a close contest. Hites also posted two pins to get to the title match, flattening New Jersey City in 1:43 and beating Adrian in 1:05.

Jessie Lee posted a tech fall 10-0 win over New Jersey City before pinning Gannon in 2:00 for the title.

Davis opened with a close 5-2 score over New Jersey City before shutting out Adrian 10-0 to get to the title match. She then fell 7-2 to Gannon in another close match.

Miranda downed Gannon 12-0 to get to her title match where she fell by fall to Adrian in 2:35.

Davidson opened with a pin in 41 seconds against Gannon, but then lost by fall in the title match to Adrian in 3:24.

Brooke Richards (109) finished third overall. She lost a razor thin 10-9 decision to New Jersey City before winning the third place match over Trine by fall in 1:26.

Paige Lenhardt (136) was fourth. She opened with a pin over Davenport in 5:02 before falling to Adrian by pin in 2:03. She bounced back with a 12-2 score over Davenport but fell in the third place match 12-0. Aliya Martin (143) was also fourth, losing her first match to Adrian 10-0. She then posted a 15-2 win over Gannon before falling in the third place match to Adrian by fall in 2:11. In a true fourth place match, she defeated Gannon by no contest.

Abbi Montgomery (130) also competed and finished sixth. She had a pin over New Jersey Cith in 2:31.

The Dragons will now host the NCWWC National Championships on March 6 in the Heminger Center.
