Women's Wrestling - Season in Review

Women's Wrestling - Season in Review

Over the course of the rest of the spring and the summer months, one Tiffin Athletics program will be highlighted every Saturday on their accomplishments during the year. First up in this Saturday Spotlight is the women's wrestling program.

Led by first-year head coach Nick Goebel, the women enjoyed an incredible amount of success in just their second season as an official sport at Tiffin. Ranked as high as fifth in the nation during the year, the Dragons had seven different athletes earn 11 All-American honors between the WCWA National Championships in February and the WCWC Championship in March.

At WCWA, Tiffin had five All-Americans, led by a third-place finish by Sugey Ceja (109). Savannah Stacks (fifth, 123), Eunique Davis (fifth, 136), Taylor Hites (fifth, 155), and Jessie Lee (sixth, 191) rounded out Tiffin's placers.

The Dragons placed seventh as a team at WCWC with six All-American honors. Ceja again led the way with a runner-up finish at 109, followed by Trinity Oredina (fifth, 101), Lee (fifth, 191), Hites (seventh, 155), Shanna Morris (eighth, 116), and Davis (eighth, 130).

In Tiffin's other national competition of the season, the Dragons battled to an eighth-place finish out of 25 teams at the NWCA National Duals.

Tiffin also had a pair of impressive dual rematch victories late in the year. After falling to Adrian on Nov. 21, the Dragons bounced back for a 28-14 win on Jan. 30. TU fell to Gannon on the road on Dec. 6, but the Dragons rallied for a 36-6 rout in the second matchup on Feb. 14 at home.

The Dragons should be poised for another terrific season in 2020-21 as they do not graduate any seniors from the program this spring.
