Dragons Storm Back From 2-1 Down to Defeat Cedarville

 

The Dragons (12-12, 6-7 G-MAC) hosted Cedarville in a crucial conference-clash, battling back from 2-1 down to take a 3-2 victory in thrilling fashion.

Tiffin fell behind early in the first set but fought back to within one at 10-9. A kill from Addison Conti kick-started a 7-2 run which handed TU a 16-12 lead. Tied at 22, another kill by Conti sparked the offense as kills from Wakaya Wilson and Alivia Rew ended the set.

The Yellow Jackets bounced back in the second set and despite a late push by the Dragons, secured the set to even the match at 1-1.

The two sides proved just how evenly matched they were, trading blows throughout set number three. TU held a 23-20 lead late on but Cedarville rallied with three-straight scores to tie it up. The Dragons earned set-point advantage at 24-23 but allowed three in a row to fall behind 2-1.

A slight Tiffin lead was erased by the Yellow Jackets following a huge 9-2 run which made it 19-15 in favor of the away side. The Dragons responded with a 10-4 run to close out the set and force a fifth set.

TU entered the match 4-0 in five-set matches and quickly improved to 5-0 after handling Cedarville. The offense exploded as they tallied 12 kills on .458 hitting, their best of any set.

Four Dragons tallied double-digit kills on the night including Kenedi Goon (14), Wilson (13), Conti (13), and Alivia Rew (12). Conti's 13 kills was both a season and career-high. She recorded a triple-double after also leading the team in both assists (29) and digs (21).

Clare Kwiatkowski tallied 20 assists while Olivia Karhoff posted a double-double with 13 assists and 20 digs. Kaylee Fruend ended the match with a team-high five total blocks on the defensive end.

The Dragons will be back in action tomorrow at 5 p.m. when they take on Thomas More.
