Tiffin Takes Two at Urbana

The Tiffin University volleyball team took care of business in non-conference play on Tuesday night, defeating Central State 3-0 and Urbana University 3-1.

Tiffin University vs. Central State University

The Dragons made quick work of the Marauders in the 1st set, racing ahead to a 19-9 lead before finishing off Central State 25-11. The Dragons were efficient at the net, posting a .353 hitting percentage.

The second set was an even better performance for Tiffin, hitting at a .500 clip. Tiffin and Central State played to a 4-4 draw before Tiffin came unwound. The Dragons used an 11-0 run to blow the contest open at 15-4. Tiffin finished the set on a 10-5 run to take the second set 25-9.

The final set was the most competitive, but it was still the Dragons that were in charge. TU maintained a lead throughout with a steady attack that logged 19 kills on their way to a 25-17 win.

The Dragons were led by Sydney Gilland at the net, logging a game high 12 kills. Emily Weithman checked in with 25 assists, and Taylor Lattimore tallied 17 digs.

 

Tiffin University vs. Urbana University

The Dragons couldn't bask in the glory of their early victory very long as the Blue Knights came calling.

The Dragons fell behind at the midpoint of the set, but recovered to take a 13-12 lead. Like a snowball headed downhill, Tiffin's lead continued to grow as the Dragons rolled to a 25-20 victory.

Tiffin took the second set 25-18, utilizing an attack that committed only 3 errors. The Dragons hit at a .333 mark with 13 kills. The 3rd set went to the Blue Knights 25-20 as the Dragons struggled on the attack, producing only 11 kills while committing seven errors.

The fourth and final set was all Tiffin all day. The Dragons fell behind early and then woke up and trounced the Blue Knights. Tiffin rallied to hold a slim 10-8 lead before rolling to the finish line on a 15-6 run to drop Urbana 25-14.

Senior Danielle Hicks paced Tiffin in kills with an even 10. Jenna Huffman produced eight kills and was a wall on the defensive end with five assisted blocks. Emily Weithman collected 17 assists to give her 42 in the two games. Taylor Lattimore logged a dozen digs, and as a team Tiffin finished with nine blocks.

The Dragons improve to 14-11 overall and will be back in GLIAC play this Friday, hosting Grand Valley State at 7:00 pm.
