Volleyball With Tough Weekend Ahead

The Dragons jump back into GLIAC play this weekend, and they will be at home for the first time since September 30. Tiffin welcomes Northwood University on Friday and then nationally ranked Ferris State on Saturday

Tiffin University vs. Northwood University

Series Record: The Timberwolves hold a 7-4 lead over the Dragons. Last season Tiffin defeated Northwood, and will look to win two straight against the Timberwolves for the first time in series history.

Last Matchup: Tiffin downed the Timberwolves in five sets last year, but it took one heck of a comeback for Tiffin. The Dragons fell behind two sets, and then reeled off three straight set wins to win the match.

Timberwolves: Northwood is 12-8 overall and 4-5 in the GLIAC. Northwood sits 4th in the GLIAC's Northern Division. Overall in the GLIAC Northwood is 8th, while the Dragons are tied for 3rd.

Peaking At Just The Right Time: Northwood has a pretty good run going right now, winning 6 of their last 7 matches. Of the six wins, four were in straight sets.

Players To Watch:

Allison Getty - The senior outside hitter is tied for the lead in kills with 198 this season. Getty also leads Northwood in digs with 304 and digs per set with 4.22.

Hailey Jones - Sitting 4th in the GLIAC in total assists (708) and 4th in assists per set(9.83), Jones is the Timberwolves offensive catalyst. 

 

Tiffin University vs. #17 Ferris State University

Series Record: The Dragons have never defeated the Bulldogs in the nine seasons the two teams have played. Ferris State is 9-0 against Tiffin, with five of the nine wins being is straight sets. The Bulldogs have been on a good roll over the past few seasons, and have not dropped a set to Tiffin since the 2013 season. The trip to Tiffin will be the first for Ferris State since the 2014 season.

Last Matchup: Ferris State dropped Tiffin 3-0 last year in Big Rapids. The Dragons never gave in, staying within striking distance in all three sets.

Bulldogs: Ferris State climbed to #4 in the AVCA National Poll earlier this season, but they've suffered a few setbacks here of late. Ferris State has lost three of their last four games, including a 1-2 showing in the Midwest Region Crossover Tournament. Of their five losses this season three have come to teams that are ranked #3 in the nation or higher.

Timely Matches: The Bulldogs have won 15 matches this season, and 11 have been in straight sets. At one point this season the Bulldogs reeled off six straight wins that were in straight sets.

Players To Watch: 

Allyson Cappel: The sophomore has 226 kills this year averaging 3.70 kills per set. The outside hitter is 2nd in the GLIAC in kills per set.

Maeve Grimes: The sophomore setter has totaled 752 assists this year. She is 2nd in the GLIAC in assists per set with 11.22 per set. Grimes has also logged 33 kills, 26 service aces, 136 digs, and 32 total blocks.

 

Taylor Lattimore Record Countdown:

Tiffin's defensive specialist has had quite a career, logging 2204 digs. She needs 284 more digs to become the GLIAC's all-time leader. Lattimore is 3rd in the Tiffin record book in career digs, needing only 190 more to move into 2nd. To move inside the NCAA's career top-30 she needs 190 more digs.
