Dragons Face Off With U.P. Schools

The Tiffin University volleyball team will put their four game winning streak on the line this weekend, tangling with Northern Michigan and Michigan Tech. It will be a step up in competition this weekend, with Northern Michigan receiving votes in the national poll. 

Tiffin University vs. Northern Michigan 

The Wildcats are playing well, winning seven of their last ten games. Northern Michigan is 5-2 in the GLIAC, sitting in 2nd place. The Dragons have won four straight GLIAC games and are sitting tied for 2nd

Series Record: The Wildcats hold a 9-1 series lead. The Dragons broke their losing streak last year, defeating Northern Michigan 3-1. 

Nearly Ranked: The Wildcats are receiving votes in the national poll. A loss to Grand Valley State last Saturday hurt their chances. The Bulldogs have played two ranked opponents, and in both cases have lost 3-0. 

Cats' Stats: Northern Michigan sits atop the GLIAC in aces per set, blocks per set, service aces, and total blocks. Nationally the Wildcats are 2nd in blocks per set (2.95) and 3rd in total blocks (156.5). 

Players To Watch: 

Kayla Chosa: Leading the Wildcats in most hitting and blocking categories, Chosa is 2nd in the nation in blocks per set and 4th in total blocks. She is also leading the GLIAC in hitting percentage (.379). 

Madison Whitehead: Tied for the team lead in kills per set (2.96), Whitehead has 154 kills and 48 blocks. 

 

Tiffin University vs. Michigan Tech 

Series Record: Michigan Tech holds a 7-2 lead over the Dragons, and have a five game winning streak against Tiffin. 

The Highs and The Lows: The Huskies started off strong in GLIAC play, but as the competition increased the Huskies began to drop games. Michigan Tech is 2-3 over their past five games, with four of the five games being on the road. 

Home Field Advantage: The Huskies are 5-2 at home this year. The drive for most teams is a drain on the body, with the Dragons having to drive 642 miles to get to Houghton. The Huskies are averaging 450 fans per home match. 

Players To Watch: 

MacAulay Petersen: Leading the Huskies in kills with 185, Petersen is 3rd in the GLIAC in the category. 

Laura DeMarchi: The Huskies setter is leading the GLIAC in assists and is 15th in the nation in assists per set.
