Dragons Rebound on Day Two of Bellarmine Kickoff

It was a much better outcome for the Dragons on day two of the Bellarmine Kickoff, defeating Trevecca Nazarene University in straight sets, and dropping the University of West Georgia 3-1.

Tiffin Universtiy vs. Trevecca Nazarene University

Tiffin bolted out of the gate in the first set, charging out to an 11-4 lead before the Trojans knew what hit them. Tiffin continued to build upon their lead, pushing the Trevecca deficit to 22-9. The Dragons rolled the rest of the way, winning set one 25-10.

Set two was more of the same, with the Dragons holding a five point lead at 13-8. Then the Dragons used a 7-0 run to put the set out of reach for the Trojans, rolling to a 25-13 set two win. It was more about what Trevecca did wrong versus what Tiffin did right, as the Trojans managed only six kills and committed six errors.

In the final set, TU rolled ahead to a 14-5 lead. The Dragons kept their foot on the gas, finishing off Trevecca Nazarene University 25-15. TU registered 11 kills in the set, hitting at a .286 mark.

It was a group effort for Tiffin offensively, as Olivia Davis and Kyley Keene led Tiffin with eight kills. Danielle Hicks added seven kills, and Jenna Huffman chipped in with six kills. Emily Weithman dished out 16 assists, and Taylor Lattimore finished with 11 digs.

Tiffin University vs. University of West Georgia

Tiffin kept their momentum rolling in their second match, using a 16-8 run against the Wolves to seal a 25-14 set one win. The Dragons committed only two errors at the net, hitting at a .276 clip.

The Wolves swooped in and stole the second set, having to earn a 34-32 2nd set win. Tiffin committed four more errors than West Georgia in the set, and that proved to be the difference. Tiffin took out their frustration on the Wolves in the 3rd set as Tiffin motored to a 16-7 lead. The Dragons never let the Wolves off their chain, taking a 2-1 lead with a 25-13 3rd set victory.

In the 4th and final set, the Dragons only surrendered 13 points to West Georgia, finishing the game on a 6-0 run to take the set 25-13.

Tiffin was led by youngster Kyley Keene with 13 kills and five digs. Jenna Huffman added 11 kills, seven digs, and three blocks. Emily Weithman collected 27 assists, and Taylor Lattimore did her job on the defensive end, adding 23 digs.

The Dragons now sit 5-3 overall and will jump into GLIAC play this coming weekend, taking on Wayne State University on September 15. Tiffin defensive specialist, Taylor Lattimore, was named to the All-Tournament team for her outstanding play on the court.
