Dragons Headed North for Weekend Battles

The Tiffin University women's soccer team will saddle up for a long weekend on the road, doing battle with Northern Michigan University on Friday and then Michigan Tech on Sunday.

Tiffin University vs. Northern Michigan University

Series Record: The Wildcats and Dragons are deadlocked in their series. Since 2008, the two teams have battled to a 6-6-1 mark.

Last Outing: The Dragons fell in double overtime in their last meeting with the Wildcats. The game took place in Marquette, Michigan as the Dragons rallied to tie the score before falling in the 101st minute.

Wildcats: Northern Michigan started hot, winning two of their first three GLIAC games. Since then, it has been a downward spiral with a 0-2-2 mark. The two losses were 1-0 defeats at the hands of Michigan Tech and Northwood. The Wildcats' two ties were 0-0 and came to Davenport and Saginaw Valley State.

Can't Score If You Don't Shoot: The Wildcats rank near the bottom in most offensive categories in the GLIAC. Of the 10 GLIAC teams, Northern Michigan is 8th in shots, 8th in goals, 8th in shots per game, 9th in shots on goal, 9th in assists, and 8th in corner kicks.

Players To Watch:

Jenna Halonen: As a team, Northern has scored 10 goals. Jenna has accounted for seven of those goals. She has 16 points this season and is the only real offensive threat for Northern Michigan.

Brianna Frontuto: In 11 games, Brianna has three shutouts, 55 saves, and is allowing 1.35 goals per game.

 

Tiffin University vs. Michigan Tech

Series Record: Michigan Tech has dominated Tiffin, holding a 7-1 series lead. The Dragons' only win came in 2011. The last time Tiffin scored a goal against the Huskies was on October 6, 2013. 

Last Matchup: The Dragons were shutout in their last trip to Houghton, Michigan. The Huskies took care of Tiffin 2-0 last October.

Mediocre Huskies: Over their last five games Michigan Tech has played .500 soccer, posting a 2-2-1 record. Their last game was a 1-0 win over rival Northern Michigan. 

Standings: The Huskies are 5-5-1 overall and 2-2-1 in the GLIAC. Michigan Tech sits right in the middle of the pack at 5th in the GLIAC. 

Offense: The Huskies have scored 10 goals this year, with six of the 10 goals coming from three players. Sarah Boyd, Brooke Schauer, and Katri Studtmann all have scored two goals.

Defense: The netminder for the Huskies is Kirsen Hudak. She is allowing only 0.84 goals per game, collecting 43 saves.
