Tiffin Traveling East For Weekend Games

The Tiffin University women's soccer team had a tough opening week, but the signs of improvement are evident. The Dragons fell behind in every game, but were able to battle back. TU couldn't find the go-ahead goal needed to win one of their first three games. Svetlana Gudenkova collected a pair of goals in three games, firing eight shots with four coming on goal. Both of Gudenkova's goals came courtesy of Leanne Tobin. Tiffin goalkeeper Samantha Ortenzi leads the Dragons in saves, collecting 18. She is currently the all-time career leader in saves at Tiffin University.

Tiffin University vs. Roberts Wesleyan College

The Redhawks are 1-2-1 this season, winning their first game of the season before dropping back-to-back games. Roberts Wesleyan was picked to finish 4th in the East Coast Conference, totaling 51-points. Thus far this season, the Redhawks have scored three goals, with 77% of their shots coming on goal. Opponents have scored four goals this season, but have had success in getting shots off against Roberts Wesleyan. The Redhawks have allowed 63 shots with 71% coming on goal. Kelsey Brinkel is the netminder for the Redhawks, collecting 26 saves. In her first game of the season, Brinkel pitched a 1-0 shutout against Le Moyne College. The Redhawks played in a 0-0 double overtime draw on Wednesday, surviving a barrage of shots by the opposition.

Tiffin University vs. Daemen College

On Sunday Tiffin will finish their road trip with a matchup against Daemen College. Last season, the Dragons dropped a tough decision, allowing a single goal in the 38th minute to fall 1-0 to the Wildcats. Daemen entered 2017 picked to finish 8th in the ECC, finishing 2016 4-10-2 overall and 1-6-1 in the ECC. The Wildcats opened the season with a 1-1 double overtime draw. The Wildcats fell behind early, but battled back to tie the game in the 78th minute. Daemen's second game of the season was rather strange, as it looked like the teams were headed to overtime scoreless. But Le Moyne College scored two goals in 95 seconds to drop the Wildcats 2-0. Daemen has used two keepers, but Katelin White has held the position for the majority of the time. She has allowed 0.58 goals per game and has saved 91.7% of the shots taken against her.
