Barnett, Ours win G-MAC Championships

Tiffin University's men's wrestling team had two individual champions and finished third overall at the G-MAC Championships hosted by Ashland University.

Overall the Dragons finished third. Findlay took the title with 86 points while Ashland was next with 76.5 points. Tiffin totaled 72.5.

Taking First Team honors with championships were 157-pound Casey Barnett and 285-pound Clayton Ours.

Brandon Mendoza was also recognized as Elite 26 award winner. Mendoza carries a 3.88 GPA while majoring in Health, Fitness, and Wellness. Mendoza, competing at 125 pounds, is ranked fourth in his weight class in the most recent InterMat Wrestling rankings.

Barnett picked up a strong opening win against Ashland by fall in 1:12 before winning the title with a narrow 11-8 decision over Logan Sanom of Findlay.

Ours powered his way to the title with two wins via pin. He won over Kentucky Wesleyan in 2:10 before flattening Ty Petrey of Ashland in 2:14.

Earning Second Team honors with runner-up finishes were Zack Donathan (141 pounds), Matt Zuckerman (149), and Brandon Mendoza (125).

Donathan posted a major decision over Findlay 17-5 before falling by the slimmest of margins 1-0 against Christian Small of Lake Erie.

Zuckerman won by injury default over Findlay and then also lost by a point 4-3 against Austin Fietz of Lake Erie.

Mendoza pinned Kentucky Wesleyan in 1:24 but then fell in the title match 14-9 to Graham Shore of Findlay.

Earning Third Team honors with a third-place finish was Connor Twigg (174). Twigg opened with a 7-2 win over Findlay but then lost a close one 11-8 to Ashland. He bounced back with two wins, pinning Kentucky Wesleyan in 56 seconds before beating Andrew Knick of Findlay 7-4.

Also picking up wins in their weight classes were Sam Lofaso III (165) by major decision 10-2 over Kentucky Wesleyan, and Jake Noon (197) by major decision over teammate Dylan McCandless 15-3.
