Grine wins 157 pound title at Midwest Classic

Tiffin University had its best finish ever at the prestigious Midwest Classic in Indianapolis, finishing 3rd of 37 teams as Trey Grine won the 157 pound championship.

Tiffin totaled 104 points and trailed only champion McKendree with 131.5 and Central Oklahoma with 113.

Grine took care of business in his weight class, defeating Newman 6-3 and then edging Central Oklahoma 7-4 for the title.

Christopher Donathan also performed well at 149 pounds, taking second and losing in the championship by a single point 6-5 to Ashland. He won his semifinal match by fall in 57 seconds over Adams State.

The Dragons also had two third place finishes. Nick Mason (197) earned the Most Falls award with 5 total pins, including two to finish his day over Ouchita Baptist in 5:50 and Gannon for third place in 3:15. His only loss in the classic was to Limestone in a thin 11-8 decision.

Hayden Bronne (174) also took third, falling to Colorado Mines 6-2 but then bouncing back for a win via pin over Maryville in 30 seconds. He claimed the third place match by medical forfeit over Western Colorado.

In other consolation bouts, Dylan Mansor (141) fell to Wisconsin-Parkside 15-11; Bryan LaVearn (165) got pinned by Maryville in 1:13; and Richard Screptock (184) lost by major decision to Gannon 12-0.
