Tiffin University opened up day one of the Regional Duals in Belmont, North Carolina with two wins, defeating Newberry 36-8 and King 33-9.

Tiffin dominated against Newberry, winning all but two weight classes. TU picked up wins via pin in three of their last four wins, with Mateo Lybarger winning at 165 in 4:50, Hayden Bronne flattening his opponent at 184 pounds in 1:18, and Nicholas Mason winning at 197 pounds in 2:38. 

Giuseppe Penzone opened the day with a win at 125 pounds 18-12, while Bryan LaVearn won at 141 pounds 15-12. Trey Grine continued his strong season at 149 pounds with a big 13-4 victory, Beau Minnick edged out a 3-2 decision at 157 pounds, and Chase Boyd shut out his opponent at 174 pounds 17-0.

Against King, TU continued to post strong results. The Dragons won the first 8 weight classes to put the match away in short order. Penzone opened with a pin in 5:40, while Rico Puente (133) got a razor thing 11-10 win as well. LaVearn got another pin for TU in 6:02, while Grine kept the streak going with a 16-7 victory. Minnick and Richard Screptock (165) posted identical 7-2 wins, while Boyd got a 6-1 victory at 174 pounds. The Dragons got their final win of the day with a dominant pin by Bronne in just 28 seconds.

TU will take on four more teams on Jan. 27, facing duals against Queens, Belmont Abbey, Coker, and Limestone.
