Dragons go 1-2 at Ranger Duals

Tiffin University took on three Top 10 Division II programs at the Ranger Duals, picking up a win against 5th ranked McKendree 24-17.

The Dragons got the win with a dramatic pin at 285 pounds, where Caleb Fry flattened his opponent in 1:34 for the final win of the day. It culminated three straight power wins in the match, as Hayden Bronne won by pin in 2:40 at 184 and Nicholas Mason won via pin in 4:43 at 197 before Fry's victory.

TU also got wins from Trey Grine at 149 in a narrow 7-5 decision, while Giuseppe Penzone also won at 125 by an 11-5 score.

TU dropped close matches at 157 by Beau Minnick (1-0), while Mateo Lybarger (165) also fell 14-11 at 165 pounds. Chase Boyd (174) also lost 9-7 in sudden victory.

In their other dual matches, TU fell to 9th ranked Indianapolis 22-13 and 2nd ranked Wisconsin Parkside 32-18.

Against the Greyhounds, TU picked up four wins, with three of them being nailbiters. Rico Puente had a 5-4 decision at 133, while Chase Boyd won 4-3 at 174 pounds and Mason won 9-6 at 197 pounds. Grine also won at 149 by a 10-2 margin.

Penzone fell 4-3 at 125 pounds, while Bronne also lost a close one at 184 pounds 5-3. Richard Screptock also lost 4-0 at 165 pounds.

Against Parkside, TU had more standouts. After a forfeit win by Penzone to start the match off, TU got its other two wins from Bronne and Mason. Bronne got the pin in 2:45 while Mason won by pin in 1:47.

TU came up just short in other weight classes. Bryan LaVearn lost 8-4 at 141 pounds, while Grine fell 6-3. Lybarger also lost 6-5 at 165 pounds.
