Tiffin University's 11th-ranked wrestling team overcame an 11-0 deficit early to pull off an upset of 9th-ranked Ashland in a battle of national powers.
The Dragons lost the first two weight classes but then started their comeback with a big 14-2 win from Trey Grine (141 pounds). This was followed by two straight TU wins, with Michael Screptock getting a forfeit win at 149 and Sam Viengmany posting a 5-2 win to put TU up for the first time 13-11.
Beau Minnick (165) dropped a narrow 3-2 decision as the Eagles went back on top 14-13, but the lead was shortlived as Chase Boyd (174) pulled out a tough 4-1 victory and put TU back up front 16-14.
Ashland rallied in the 184 and 197 pound weight classes, posting 7-1 and 1-0 wins to go ahead 20-16 but it was irrelevant at that point as 285 pound Garrett Gray, the national falls leader, was awarded a forfeit victory to give TU the 22-20 victory.
