Lacrosse Connecticut bound for pair of games

The Tiffin University women's lacrosse team will travel to Connecticut for a showdown with the Southern Connecticut State University Owls on Friday, and the New Haven Chargers on Sunday.

The Owls are 2-1 this season, defeating Saint Thomas Aquinas and Bridegeport, but falling to No. 11 New Haven in their last outing. The offense has been a strength for SCSU, averaging 13.67 goals per game, 32nd in the NCAA Division II rankings. Last season was a rough go of it for the Owls, posting a 4-13 record. This year SCSU was picked to finish 13th in the NE-10. 

Last Outing: The Owls dropped their first conference game of the year in their 16-11 loss to New Haven. The Chargers, No. 11 in the nation, held a commanding 11-4 lead after a half of play, but SCSU played a solid 2nd half and outscored New Haven 7-5. The major difference between the two sides came in the center circle, with New Haven holding a 19-9 advantage in draw controls. 

Players To Watch:

Nicole Healey - Leading the team with 10 goals scored, Healey also handles the draw controls for the Owls, snagging 18 in three games. 

Samantha Cozzolino - Leading the team in assists with four, Cozzolino is tied for the team lead in points with 12. 

Goalie Report:

In goal for the Owls is Alexandra Takacs. She has logged every minute in net for SCSU this season, making 22 saves so far. She is allowing 11.67 goals per game, and has faced 76 shots. This is Takacs first real action at the collegiate level, seeing limited time as a freshman last season.

Sunday, March 12 - Tiffin @ New Haven

Tiffin will face their toughest task of the young season, matching up with the New Haven Chargers. The No. 11 ranked team in the nation is 2-0 on the season, defeating Molloy and the aforementioned SCSU Owls. The Chargers, picked to finish 3rd in the NE-10, finished 13-7 last season having played one of the toughest schedules in the nation. New Haven faced off against nine nationally ranked teams, and still made an appearance in the NCAA Division II Playoffs. 

Accuracy On Net: The Chargers have made sure when they shoot, it's on net. They fire shots on net at a 80.7% rate, and connect on 54.4% of those attempts. The efficiency at the net has led to 15.5 goals per game this season, 18th in the nation.

1st Half Attack: The Chargers have blitzed their opponents to open games, scoring 21 of their 31 goals in the initial half.

Players To Watch:

Kendall Cietek: Leading the team in goals scored with 9, Cietek is the team leader in shots on goal and draw controls.

Jessica Mazliah: Leading the team in points with 12, Mazliah has been the most balanced offensive player for New Haven, logging seven goals and a team high five assists.

Goalie Report: There is a duet in goal for the Chargers, Erica Rinsky and Gianna Guerra have each logged 50 plus minutes between the pipes. Rinsky leads with 10 saves and a 9.58 goals against average. Guerra has played more minutes, 69:54, but has fewer saves and more goals allowed than her teammate.
