Gealy Signs with Women's Basketball

Kara Gealy has announced her intention to continue her athletic and academic careers at Tiffin University.

Gealy is a 5'5" point guard out of Homestead High School in Fort Wayne, Indiana. In her career to date, she has averaged eight points per game, three rebounds per game, five assists per game, and two steals per game.

She has been a varsity captain for Homestead in both her junior and senior seasons, and was a part of the 2017 state championship squad. Her 2018 team also finished second overall at the invite-only Best of Maryland Tournament that hosts 20 of the highest-ranking high school teams from across the country. Gealy was named All-SAC Honorable Mention last year as well, and participated in the Indiana All-Star Classic this past summer.

On why she chose to become a Dragon, Gealy said, "Tiffin made me feel like I was at home the moment I stepped on campus. The coaches are awesome and I can't wait to get there."

Academically, Gealy intends to major in Health Administration. In high school, she has been a part of the National Honor Society and carried a 4.1 GPA, earning Honors each year. She is also actively involved with the Student Leadership Conference and Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

"Kara Gealy is a versatile basketball player on both ends of the court," said Rod Parker, her high school coach. "Offensively, Kara can score from beyond the arc and when attacking the basket. She is an ideal point guard with her innate ability to make her teammates better through the distribution of the basketball and her unselfish play."

"Her physical skill set and high basketball IQ allow her to break down defenses and control the tempo of a game. Defensively, Kara is a relentless competitor each and every possession of the game. Her love of competition, intense will to win, on court leadership, and relentless passion to compete against the highest level of competition define Kara as a player, teammate, and leader," added Parker.

"Kara Gealy is what I like to call a silent assassin," said her AAU coach Vernard Hollins. "She works harder than any other kid in our program and also had accountability for herself and others. She's one of those kids that make other kids better on accident because her hard work and positive attitude is contagious!"

"She's a great fit for any team because as a point guard she can do it all: pass, knock down the three ball, get to the rim, and most importantly guard the other teams point guard full-court all game long," added Hollins.
