Tiffin University was picked fifth in the GMAC preseason coaches poll, as the Dragons prepare for the upcoming 2022 softball season.

The Dragons totaled 79 points, slotting in behind Findlay with 87 points. Trevecca Nazarene was first with 114 points (6 first place) followed by a tie for second place between Ohio Dominican with 109 points (5 first place) and Hillsdale with 109 (1 first place). A total of 12 teams will be competing in Great Midwest competition this season.

The Dragons finished their 2021 season with a 23-17 record including a 12-6 mark in conference play. They finished fourth in the GMAC standings, and were 5th in overall batting while leading the GMAC in fielding. They also led the conference in stolen bases with 73. 

Leading the attack will be three All GMAC selections. Second baseman Maddie Woods (Second Team), outfielder Taylor Whalen (Second Team), and pitcher Claire Feldkamp (Honorable Mention) lead a solid group of returning players.

Woods hit .306 for TU and was second on the team with 20 RBI, 21 runs scored, and 3 home runs. Her 3 triples placed her second in the GMAC. Whalen led the team with a .385 average and 12 stolen bases. She ranked 11th in the GMAC in batting and was 6th in stolen bases. Feldkamp led TU's hurlers with 8 wins with a save while tossing 81.1 innings with 67 strikeouts. She posted a 2.58 ERA, good for 8th in the GMAC. She was also amongst conference leaders in strikeouts and victories.

Other top returners for TU include seniors Kirsten Georges (.292), Sarah Klein (2-3 with 1 save), and Kaylee Savage (.291, 19 RBI). Also returning on the mound are Libby Schaadt (4-1), Shelbey Spurlock (2-2 with 1 save), and Isabella St. Peter (1-1 with 1 save). 

 

Other top hitters back for TU include Laura Teunion-Smith (.321, 4 HR, 28 RBI) and Caitlin Wilson (.297). 

The Dragons open their season Feb. 18-20 with five games in Smyrna, Tennessee while their home opener is scheduled for March 12 vs. Glenville State.
